Applications

There are countless reasons why a tooth can not be maintained and must be removed. Some of these are:

  • If the baby teeth do not loosen and fall  in time, they may be blocking the growth of permanent teeth. In this case, the milk tooth must be removed so that the permanent tooth can grow in the right direction.
  • When a tooth is cracked or broken and can not be maintained with treatments such as restorations and veneers.
  • If in orthodontic treatment of teeth, there is not enough space for the teeth to be placed in the jaw.
  • If the wisdom tooth has not fully grown, has decayed, has grown in the wrong direction, has become infected, and has damaged the tooth next to it, it should be removed.
  • If a person has a disease of the gums and tissues that support the teeth, the teeth may not be maintainable; In such cases, the tooth must be extracted.

It should be noted that after tooth extraction, the tooth can be replaced with dental implants.

Methods of Tooth Extraction in Iran

Simple tooth extraction

Tooth extraction in Iran is done through two techniques: simple and surgical. The following is a description of each of these methods:

Simple Tooth Extraction
This method is used when the tooth inside the oral cavity is fully accessible. In this method, tooth extraction is easily done using special tools and with minimal damage.

Surgical Tooth Extraction
In situations where simple tooth extraction is not possible or there is risk of damaging the teeth, surgical tooth extraction is performed. Some of these conditions are:

  • When a tooth has not fully grown;
  • When only a small amount of tooth tissue is remaining. In this case, it is not possible to access the tooth through tooth extraction tools of simple tooth extraction techniques;
  • When a tooth must be cut into smaller pieces to be removed.

Advantages of Tooth Extraction in Iran

Extracting a tooth requires a high level of knowledge and ability, hence if the teeth are not extracted properly, they become a source of infection and pain. Iranian dentists have studied in the top universities in the country. They have sufficient knowledge and skills in the field of tooth extraction and are highly experienced in treating or removing severely damaged teeth. Also, the cost of all dental treatments, including tooth extraction, is much lower in Iran compared to other countries. This has made Iran a suitable country for receiving dental treatments. Every year many people from other countries come to this country to receive treatment.

When is Tooth Extraction Not Necessary?

Teeth that have a large amount of tissue left are not suitable for extraction. Such teeth can be maintained with other treatments such as restorations and veneers. Note that no dental treatment has been able to completely restore natural teeth, therefore, preserving the teeth is always a priority.

Pre-Treatment Preparations

Tooth extraction preoperative preparations
  • In the first session, the dentist will first present you with a treatment plan. This customized treatment plan is based on the tissue of your gums, mouth and teeth.
  • Be sure to inform your dentist if you have a specific illness, history of hospitalization, pregnancy, or taking certain medications.
  • You need to have a medical image of your tooth before extracting it.
  • If you are taking any medications, you will need to make changes in the amount, type and time of taking them in consultation with your doctor.
  • If you smoke, stop smoking at least one day before tooth extraction.
  • Under certain conditions, you may need to take antibiotics before tooth extraction.

How It is Done

Simple Tooth Extraction

  • In this method, the dentist first anesthetizes your gums and teeth at the target location.
  • Then, using a special tool called an elevator, the dentist separates the tooth from the surrounding tissues.
  • Next the dentist uses a forceps to remove the tooth from its place. He then puts a sterile gas in its place.
  • It should be noted that in some cases it is necessary to suture the desired area after tooth extraction.

Surgical Tooth Extraction

  • Similar to the previous method, the target area is first anesthetized.
  • At this stage, the dentist makes an incision in the desired area on the gums.
  • If the tooth is embedded under the jawbone, the dentist should also remove the jawbone in that area.
  • The next step is for the dentist to extract the tooth.
  • Typically after surgery it is necessary to to stitch the gum edges.

How is Wisdom Tooth Extraction Performed?

How it is done

Wisdom tooth surgery is performed in the same way as other dental surgeries. But in some cases of wisdom tooth surgery, it is necessary to split the tooth into several pieces and then remove it.

Aftercare

  • For 30 minutes to one hour after tooth extraction, press the gas firmly on the extraction location to stop bleeding. If bleeding persists, put one tea bag in place and press it for half an hour to help stop bleeding.
  • Avoid drinking with a straw, smoking and making any suction motion in your mouth.
  • Do not manipulate the location of the extracted tooth to heal faster.
  • Use painkillers and antibiotics as directed by your dentist.
  • You can use a cold water bag to reduce bleeding and swelling. Place the bag on the treated location for ten minutes. Then wait half an hour and repeat the process.
  • You can brush your teeth 24 hours after tooth extraction. But continue to avoid manipulating the extraction site.
  • Use chlorhexidine mouthwash to disinfect your mouth for a week.
  • Avoid heavy work for two days after extracting your teeth.
  • After extracting your teeth, use soft and nutritious liquids and foods.
  • If your dentist has used sutures, you will need to see your dentist one week to ten days after the procedure to have the sutures removed.
  • 48 hours after tooth extraction, you can use a warm towel to accelerate healing. First, place the bag on the treatment site for 20 minutes, remove the bag for another 20 minutes and repeat this process.
  • Avoid smoking for at least 48 hours.
  • Bleeding is normal for several hours after tooth extraction. Avoid washing your mouth frequently during this time.
  • Contact your dentist if you have severe pain, heavy bleeding, bad breath and fever.
  • If you have extracted your baby teeth, be careful not to bite your lips and cheeks until the numbness goes away.
